The abandoned sign…
It’s amazing how high gas prices are today. I passed this sign as I was leaving Myrtle Beach and I had to pull over to take this picture. I wondered just how old was this abandoned sign? I don’t remember “EVER” paying $1.09 for gas. So, I googled an article and found that Regular gas prices were $1.09/gallon in 1998, exactly 12 years ago. As oil prices continue to rise, I can only imagine how expensive a gallon of gas will be in the next 10 years. Renewable alternatives are looking better and better each day.
I think the best alternative to rising gas prices is to build more sustainable communities. Communities that will allow us to drive less, (maybe walk to work or work from home) and that will allow us to use more natural resources that are readily available in the U.S. We need to pay more attention to energy efficiency in everyday living. If your home wasn’t built within the last 5 years you need to have your homes audited for energy efficiency. Most older homes are not energy efficient which is a major contributer to rising utility bills. You can install better windows that will prevent heat loss and protect against UV rays, more efficient central heating/air system, or simply go GREEN. Green homes are becoming more and more desirable in our day and age.
If you can’t afford to go green or update your home with more energy efficient appliances, systems, etc. Then you can start simply by using less energy. There are 10 Tips that you can implement today that will save you $$$ on your next utility bills. Try it out, I’d love to get your feedback.
1.keeping the lights off in the day time.
2. Unplug the computers when not in use.
4. Make the kids go “outside” to play a good part of the day. NO Wii ALL DAY LONG!
5. Buy energy efficient light bulbs.
6. Make sure your doors, and windows have weather stripping to prevent heat loss.
7. If you Properly seal cracks this can also prevent heat loss.
8.Walk more vs. driving, this will save you on gas and keep you healthy and fit.
9. Read more vs. watching TV.
10. Regulate your Thermostat.
Please remember to make a conscious contribution to the planet to sustain a healthy community.
